Also, anime has original ending, which as far as I know, isn't in the game at all, not to mention the game has sequels, alternative versions, and lots of interesting endings that the anime doesn't touch upon at all. It has rich, well explored story (and keep in mind we're talking at least dozen of hours just in the first game alone, as opposed to 2 in the anime), characters you'll grow to care for, and while still extremely gory (although mostly through descriptions), it uses gore to progress the story, rather than progressing story just to show more gore, if that makes sense. The reason being (beside extremely poor animation quality, I could live with that), it felt like gore for the sake of gore, which I'm not a huge fan of. To be honest, I didn't like the anime adaptation much. But why is the evil-but-victimized girl a motif in Japanese horror? To sum up, I think these kinds of stories have a unique form of depth to them and love reading into the backstories.īONUS: Why is it that the antagonists are always young girls who have long hair that covers their face? Corpse Party, The Ring, The Grudge, Silent Hill (a favorite of mine) AND why is it that these girls are always the innocent victims of something that had little to do with them? Then again, all of the ones I mentioned are Japanese and follow similar logic, so that may explain why they are similar. When I watched Corpse Party, I felt like it had the qualities I love in the horror/ghost genre. For example, The Babadook was a slow movie, but really captured the negative emotions of struggling as a single mother. I think these kinds of stories really speak to basic human emotions, but illustrates them in an extreme manner to really emphasize the struggle (or whatever the antagonist dealt with). I love ghost/horror stories that have intricate backstories, which usually center around traumatic events/suffering/regret/etc. I am not sure if the game is totally ruined, though. Now, I am wondering if I have made a grave mistake that will ruin the game for me. Curiosity got the best of me, and I finished all four episodes (but not the Missing Footage episode). At that moment, I felt that I should stop watching to not ruin the game. I paused the episode and quickly bought the 3DS version of the game. Half way through the first episode, I liked what I saw and enjoyed where the story was going. I thought to myself, "Alright, horror adventure? Yasss." I was very intrigued by the story from what I saw online, so I decided to watch the first episode of Tortured Souls. After reading about it online, I remembered that Corpse Party for 3DS came out last year. I was in the mood for some horror anime that had some mystery and was recommended to check out Corpse Party. Is playing the game still worth it? Thanks in advance for everyone's input! :D TLDR: I watched all four episodes of the anime.
